Genie Backup Manager: Trial Download

" Dear Dennis,
I just finished reading your stellar review of Genie Backup, and was very interested in making it my primary backup solution.
The problem is that many of the backup programs I've tried in the past have fell short of their promises, leaving me with a bad taste in my mouth (for lack of better words).
Before I decide to purchase the Genie Backup program, I would like to obtain a trial version first to see if it will work with my system. Is this possible? "
My response:
As far as I understand, the Genie-Soft web site (home page of Genie Backup Manager) does not offer a trial download of their software -- at least, I wasn't able to find a link. For this reason, I went to get lengths to outline the most important features of the GBM in yesterday's in-depth review.
After receiving your question, I did a little more digging and was able to locate a trial download of GBM Home Edition offered through RegNow.com (a shareware registration web site) which you can use to evaluate for up to 15 days [link below]. Unfortunately, the Pro version of GBM is not available for trial via RegNow so I am unable to provide you with that link.

Once you try the software, drop me a line and let me know what you think. If you end up purchasing the Genie Backup Manager, please be sure to use the links below (I.E.: do not register it through the evaluation program) -- otherwise you won't get the 20% discount I mentioned in yesterday's review [links below].
- Genie Backup Manager Home Edition 20% discount
- Genie Backup Manager Pro 20% discount
And on that note, Infopackets Reader Kenneth W. writes:
" Dear Dennis,
One question about this Genie Backup Manager that I did not see addressed in your review was whether or not it does complete disk images?
Although disk images can be fairly large in size and use up a great deal of media, I feel this is the best choice for backup solutions in general. Not only can you reload the entire Operating System or hard drive if something goes corrupt, but most mainstream imaging solutions also allow you to extract single files at whim.
I personally image all my drives at least once a month and backup critical files daily (similar to the suggestion you made in your 3-Part Series on choosing Backup Software). "
My response:
Unfortunately, Genie Backup Manager is not capable of making drive image backups. I've been meaning to write a review on Acronis True Image 8.0 for quite some time now, and will most likely have that ready for everyone in the next few days. In addition to presenting the features of True Image 8.0, the review will highlight key differences between regular backup software (such as Genie Backup Manager) versus disk imaging software in general. Stay tuned!
