Organize Favorites in Internet Explorer, Part 2
Is there a simple way to organize Internet Explorer (IE) favorites -- without the need to 'flip' through dialogue menus, or worry of accidentally moving the wrong file?
That's the question I asked Infopackets Readers last week after describing the method I used for sorting IE bookmarks. Below are some of the responses I received:
Leo F. recommended AlphaCuts:
" AlphaCuts swiftly displays, in alphabetical listings, your programs on the Start Menu, favorites in Internet Explorer and documents in the My documents folder. It lists the relevant directories and categories and the items they contain, to help you quickly find what you are looking for. "

Robin C. recommended AM-Deadlink:
" AM-DeadLink detects dead links and duplicates in your Browser Bookmarks. If a Bookmark has become unavailable you can delete it from your Browser. AM-Deadlink checks Bookmarks from Internet Explorer, Opera and Netscape. "

Peter W., along with many other readers, recommended Q-Sort.
" I use Hyper-Q Software's Q-Sort 2000. It works with Win95-98-98SE-ME and is freeware. Does a great job and realphabatizes the Favorites and Program Lists. I attached a link. PS: Keep up the great work. "

Doug H. recommended DZSoft Favorites Search:
" DZSoft Favorites Search is an Internet Explorer plug-in that adds a convenient Search Bar in your Favorites. "

And, Infopackets Reader Ron R. recommended MenuSnap:
" MenuSnap sorts the Start Menu and Internet Explorer favorites automatically. Works with Windows 95 / 98 only. "

Sarah M. sent me instructions on how to hide Favorites that won't go away after you delete them:
" You know how you can't get rid of the 'Links' and 'Media' folders under Favorites? You can delete them, but they come right back... Well, all you have to do is right click on the folder in Windows Explorer and go to Properties, then check 'Hidden'. Now you won't see them in your Favorites in Internet Explorer anymore! "
Chip M. sent me a link to a web site that converts Favorites to a web page:
" I use Favorites Home Page to organize my favorites. Since it is so versatile, you'll hardly ever use the plain, old drop-down list again. "
