Yahoo CEO Steps Down

At last week's shareholders meeting, Yahoo CEO Terry Semel got less-than-rave reviews. As a result, his resignation may turn shareholders frowns upside down. Beware! Yahoo! Search!

A few days ago, I reported on McAfee's recent study of the web's riskiest websites. Although just 4% of the Internet is considered plagued by the "risky" site, the danger changes drastically depending on the search term. It seems it may also depend ... on the search engine, as McAfee has followed up its risky report with one accusing Yahoo of returning the highest percentage of threatening sites. Like the last survey, McAfee's SiteAdvisor division is behind the analysis. Once a search powerhouse during the web's early days, Yahoo has been more than eclipsed by Google. Aside from more reliable ... (view more)

Microsoft Acquisition of Yahoo! May be Kaput

A few weeks ago, the rumored acquisition of Yahoo by software behemoth Microsoft appeared to be a done deal. There was some motive for it, as the pair lagged behind hegemonic web power Google in both search and advertising functionality. And with ... the latter acquiring major ad agency DoubleClick a few months ago, the impetus appeared to be on Microsoft to match such a move. Despite the sense it seemed to make at the outset of May, it's now looking more and more as if Microsoft is no longer interested in the Yahoo deal. (Source: Infopackets.com ) So, what's changed in recent weeks? Most notably ... (view more)

Here's a new one for the techie forums to debate: Who is more powerful online, Microsoft or Google? While traditionally known for beer and chocolate, Belgium is now making a name for itself as a strict enforcer of copyright laws. NFL Quarterback Tom Brady Sues Yahoo!

Careful where you place a face. That's a lesson Yahoo might be learning, shortly after its recent legal troubles involving New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. The three-time Super Bowl champion (who once dated Tara Reid, by the way), is ... angry that Yahoo used his likeness to promote its online fantasy football league. Whether Tom's completely opposed to tame gambling or simply not proud of the picture in question is unclear. But, it spells bad news and bad press for Yahoo. The ad in question wasn't actually posted on the web, in fact. Instead, Brady's unauthorized mug was presented in ... (view more)
