84" Ultra HDTV to Debut at Consumer Electronics Show

Not only are televisions continuing to get bigger and better, but they're also continuing to display higher-than-ever resolutions. In fact, industry heavyweight LG has revealed plans to unveil its newest, largest television, a massive 84-inch 3D and "Ultra Definition" set, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) later this month.

It's important to recognize that LG's planned CES showpiece isn't your average high definition television set simply ballooned to an astronomical size. Instead, it represents a major feat in TV design and development because of the sheer number of pixels utilized in the display: a whopping 8 million.

Overall, the screen boasts a display capability of 3,480 x 2,160 pixels, which comes to 8 million pixels using a specialized formula. This is four times the number of pixels available in most high-definition television screens currently on the market. (Source: wired.com)

LG to Debut New "Ultra Definition" TV

It's no surprise, then, that LG claims its Consumer Electronics Show demonstration will be the first time consumers can experience what the company calls "ultra definition" TV.

In case that's not a big enough claim, the new TV set will also feature customizable 3D technology. Images will appear to 'reach out' from the screen to viewers in simulated three dimensions, and the set will also provide immersive 3D sound that LG says "rivals the output of all but the best home theater systems." LG's new Ultra Definition, or UD TV, will also provide access to the company's new Smart TV ecosystem, which allows users to make use of more than one thousand applications and other premium material.

Finally, LG says the set will boast voice- and gesture-activated controls, allowing users to operate the device without a traditional remote.

Retail Date, Cost To Be Determined

Overall, LG is very excited about the new TV set, which blends many kinds of cutting-edge technology into a single device.
