Research carried out by analyst Vanson Bourne shows that UK firms have little enthusiasm for the new Windows Vista operating system. Nearly 6 out of 10 businesses say they have no plans to deploy it. (Source: Techworld.com)

100 IT directors and chief technology officers at UK companies employing more than 1,000 staff were surveyed. 1 percent of those surveyed planned to deploy Vista immediately. 58 percent of those surveyed were not.

In larger companies that employed more than 3,000 staff, 68 percent of those surveyed said they had no plans to deploy Vista.

78 percent of respondents across all industrial sectors had no migration strategy in place. The percentages rose to 80 percent among financial institutions and 96 percent in the retail, distribution and transport industries.

The most frequently cited reason for not deploying the newest version of Windows was due to compatibility issues between Vista and businesses existing applications. 58 percent of those surveyed said that was a very important factor. 39 percent cited cost as the reason for not switching and 23 percent were deterred by the complexity of implementation.

Companies will eventually migrate to Vista but it will take time and a lot of preparation and planning before they do.
