Philip recently wrote to inquire:

I would like to ask if it is possible to still send a fax through MS Word 2007 without actually having to connect to the Internet because since I upgraded to MS Office 2007, the option that used to allow me to send faxes through Word 2003 is no longer available. I hope you can help.

My Reply:

You can easily send faxes from your computer instead of a stand-alone fax machine and you can indeed send a fax using Microsoft Word using your modem instead of the Internet

Follow the steps below to fax with MS Word 2007:

  1. Open your document in MS Word.

  2. Click the Office button and select Print.

  3. You can also use the shortcut of CTRL + P.

  4. The Print dialog box will open.

  5. Use the drop-down menu at the top of the Print box to select you fax modem as the Printer.

  6. Click OK to start the Send Fax Wizard.

  7. The Print dialog box will close and the Send Fax Wizard will open.

  8. The first box that opens will welcome you to the Send Fax Wizard. Click Next.

  9. Enter Names and fax numbers into the Send Fax Wizard.

  10. You can click the Address Book button to choose a name and fax number from your Outlook address book or you can type the information into the To and Fax boxes.

  11. Click to add recipients to the list at the bottom.

  12. Click next.

  13. Choose whether or not to include a cover page.

  14. If you decide to click the cover page checkbox, the Wizard will prompt you for a subject and a note. The Wizard will automatically fill in the details that Word collected when you set up the program, such as your name and contact information.

  15. Click Next.

  16. You will have three options for scheduling. You can send it now or choose to send it when discount rates apply. You can also enter a specific hour and minute.

  17. Once you have scheduled your fax, click Next.

  18. Check the details and preview your fax.

  19. Click the Finish button to send your fax.

I hope this has been helpful to you Philip!
