Get A Wii While You Can

That's right, get 'em while they're hot. It seems Nintendo's tiny white console may be the first to remain so popular that it sells out during its second holiday season in release. According to Nintendo of America, the company is still struggling to ... cope with an enormous demand for the casual gamer's console. Given the usual spike in sales with the upcoming holiday free-for-all, Nintendo expects its hardware will be a rare bird indeed come December. In a statement, Nintendo of America's president said, "We're working very hard to make sure that consumers are satisfied this holiday, but I can' ... (view more)

Sony Puts PSP on a Diet

Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) has fared worse against Nintendo than its PlayStation 3. And, that's saying a lot. In release for a few years now, the PSP's once-glowing potential has been lost amidst the sticky goo of good intentions from Sony's ... executive branch. Although the stylish black handheld boasts a far more attractive appearance and superior graphics, the PSP has been thoroughly trounced by Nintendo's handy DS. What's so "handy" about the DS? Well, it is extremely portable. The most recent edition of the DS, the DS Lite, is un-surprisingly lightweight and durable for a handheld ... (view more)

IBM Ships Chips for Nintendo's Wii

Just days after the disappointing announcement from Sony that its Playstation 3 (PS3) console will ship just 400,000 units in North America and a paltry 100,000 in Japan, IBM has publicly stated that its chip for Nintendo's upcoming "Wii" system is ... moving out. The announcement by IBM confirms beliefs that the Wii is indeed on schedule, and unlike the PS3, should come relatively close to meeting a strong consumer demand when it is released in mid-November of this year. IBM's chip for Nintendo's console is code-named "Broadway", and reportedly ushers in the next generation of gaming by reducing ... (view more)

'Wiimakes' Planned For Nintendo's Upcoming System

In the most recent issue of Nintendo Dream Magazine, Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto discussed his idea to remake recent GameCube (GC) releases for the upcoming Nintendo Wii system. Yes, GameCube games. If anyone else announced plans to wiimake ... (remake) titles that haven't been around long enough to collect even a drop of dust, people would laugh and scoff. But Miyamoto isn't just "anyone." In the video game world, he's considered the Steven Spielberg or Orson Welles of his industry. Simply put: when he talks, people listen. "The machine [Wii] is based on [the previous-generation console] ... (view more)

Electronic Arts (EA), makers of everything from strategy to sports (including the massively popular Madden series) have gone public with not only their support for the Wii, but also candid statements about where it might finish in the next-gen showdown. Nintendo Wii Specifications Revealed

As the fall releases of the Nintendo Wii and Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) grow closer, the former has revealed the specifications for its newest console. At first glance, the numbers are not overly impressive, and many gaming insiders are concerned that ... Nintendo has not pushed itself hard enough to match the competition. The result may be a system so underpowered that it loses the few third-party developers left associated with Nintendo, the single greatest problem in marketing the Gamecube. (Source: theinquirer.net ) The Nintendo Wii's engine, or operating speed, clicks along at a reported 729 ... (view more)

Insiders Speculate Decline for Sony and Playstation 3

Last November, Microsoft faced intense criticism upon the release of its Xbox 360 console. Many die-hard Xbox "fanboys" -- gamers dedicated to Bill Gates' wares -- were unable to purchase the system due to massive production shortages. Those with ... their eye on the industry recognized a ridiculousness in Microsoft's pitiful attempt to attract Japanese gamers (who typically flock to Nintendo and Sony events) when the North American market was starving for more Xbox 360s. The end result? Millions in lost business on this side of the Pacific and thousands of 360s gathering dust in Japanese game ... (view more)

Sony Expands PSP -- Just As Nintendo Announces 20 Millionth DS Shipment

As Nintendo faces both scrutiny for its admittedly fragile DS Lite and applause for shipping its 20 millionth unit, Sony is doing its damndest to keep up. Provided with a golden PR opportunity as Nintendo scrambles to cover itself over an ... approximate 400,000 faulty portable units, Sony is announcing a slew of new features for the Playstation Portable (PSP), in hopes that it can increase shipments. When it launched the PSP in North America on March 24, 2005, many insiders -- including yours truly -- saw the system's power and Sony's third-party support as a dynamic that simply could not fail. ... (view more)

Nintendo DS Cracked... Literally

Despite the fact that, for the most part, Nintendo wares are designed with children in mind, Nintendo is today admitting that many of its new DS Lite handhelds are susceptible to cracking. That's right, the company that has produced consoles -- like ... the N64 and SNES -- that appear able to withstand a living room atomic bomb is telling consumers that its newest product is, well, fragile. The problem lies with some faulty cases, leading Nintendo to assure its DS Lite purchasers that the problem is simply cosmetic, and will not directly affect its gaming performance. Furthermore, according to ... (view more)
