Microsoft Surface One of Oprah's 'Favorite Things'
It's been available for only a week but already Microsoft's Surface tablet is one of Oprah Winfrey's "Favorite Things."
That means two things: 1) Oprah will be giving away a whole bunch of Surfaces in an upcoming two-hour special, and 2) The Surface is about to receive a lot of positive media attention.
Every year, Oprah Winfrey dedicates an entire show to discussing her Favorite Things and then giving away those things to each of her audience members.
Oprah's items vary widely, but in the past have included everything from Williams-Sonoma cupcakes to Josh Groban albums. Sometimes they're big ticket items, like a flat screen television or a 2012 Volkswagen Beetle.
Oprah Likens Surface to Luxury Automobile
Back in 2010, Oprah included Apple's iPad tablet in her list. But it now appears the iconic TV host is moving on.
She's now touting the Microsoft Surface tablet, which was first released Friday, October 26, 2012 -- the same time as Microsoft launched its new Windows 8 operating system.
The Surface, which currently runs a slimmed-down version of Windows 8 called Windows RT, starts at a price of $499 but creeps up from there.
Oprah said the Surface "feels like a Mercedes-Benz," suggesting Microsoft's device is of a higher quality than other tablets on the market. (Source: abcnews.com)
Absent from the Favorite Things list: Apple's new iPad Mini, which was released shortly after Microsoft's Surface.
Adoration or Advertising?
It remains unclear if Oprah really adores a device that shipped less than two weeks ago or if this is all part of Microsoft's $1.5 billion Windows 8 marketing campaign. (Source: techcrunch.com)
The Surface is just one of forty-eight products on Oprah's list of Favorite Things. She's also a big fan of $238 Lafco Soap sets, $4,999 Bose VideoWaveII sound systems, and the $450 Pedestal Fan. (Source: go.com)
Oprah's Favorite Things show will air on November 18, 2012 on the OWN network.
