Changing Number in Captions in MS Word

Dennis Faas's picture

When you use the Caption feature in Word, a label and number can be assigned to each figure in your document. By default, Word assigns each figure a number starting with 1, 2, 3, and so on. However, if you don't want to use this number format for figures, you have the ability to change it.

Follow the steps below to change the number format for a caption:

  1. Launch MS Word.

  2. Select the caption you want to change.

  3. Click Insert | Reference | Caption.

  4. From the Caption dialog box, click the Numbering button.

  5. Use the drop down arrow beside Format, and select the number format you would like to use. For example, you may want to use letters instead of numbers.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Click OK.

That wasn't difficult at all was it and I bet you thought it was going to be didn't you?
